Sports

Overview.

At Milimani Academy Kitengela, we hold sports in high regard and recognize and celebrate our achievements in sports just as fervently as we do academic successes. Each week, both the Preparatory and Secondary schools dedicate one hour to physical education and another hour to gaming sessions.
Our curriculum offers a wide array of activities, allowing students to privately engage in diverse pursuits such as Squash, Golf, Archery, Go-karting, Horseback riding, Tae Kwon Do, and dancing.
Furthermore, our games program ensures that all students have the opportunity to participate in competitive team sports throughout the year.
The Physical Education Department at Milimani Academy Kitengela firmly believes that sports and exercise are integral components of every child’s education.
The benefits of engaging in sports during school years extend beyond physical health; they also encompass psychological well-being. Exercise is known to release endorphins, fostering feelings of success and happiness. Moreover, participation in sports cultivates a sense of achievement, camaraderie, and enjoyment in collaborating with peers. Some key benefits of sports involvement include:

  • Enhanced quality of life
  • Increased energy levels
  • Reduced risk of illness and injury, among other advantages
  • Fun and team building
  • Development of leadership skills
  • Promotion of organization and teamwork
  • Cultivation of sportsmanship
  • Learning to be gracious in both victory and defeat
  • Improvement of communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities

Healthy Competition
Competition plays a vital role, particularly in older children. Engaging in sports alongside friends fosters camaraderie and teamwork. Depending on the sport, it instills values such as discipline, morale, self-confidence, and responsibility, which are essential for holistic development. Participation in sports teaches students how to gracefully accept both victory and defeat, essential lessons for navigating life’s challenges. Therefore, it is crucial to introduce children to the benefits of sports from a young age, even if not in a competitive context, as research suggests very young children may not respond well to competition.
Our Competitions / Pursuit of Victory
At Milimani Academy Kitengela, students of all ages, from kindergarten to higher secondary, partake in termly inter-house and inter-school competitions. These competitions cover various sports, including Athletics, football, cricket, and cross country in the first term; Swimming, Basketball, and hockey in the second term; and netball, volleyball, and football in the third term. Moreover, it has become a tradition to send our Primary and Secondary football teams to Europe for high-performance training and competitions.
